The inhabitants of a tiny island off the coast of Scotland harbour a guilty secret – they’ve recovered a hoard of treasure from an ancient wreck. But four unscrupulous villains from the mainland find out about the treasure and set out to steal it one stormy night. Things don’t go to plan, though, and the fragile loyalty that exists between them is shattered when the islanders fight back. What follows is a nightmare of brutality and revenge. The fast-flowing violence sweeps the reader across a rugged, desolate landscape to a shocking conclusion

Now maybe it's just that recently in my mind I had the two works of which this novel reminds me. One is the original movie, Straw Dogs - as I had recommended it to a friend, and the other is Wicker Man, since I just recently found an old paperback of the novel. James Raven's "Brutal Revenge" reminds me of both works. In his book, the twist is that the non-violent people of the island are driven to violence by years of unfair treatment by the government, and the outsiders intent on stealing their found treasure. Instead of an untamed isolated people who drive socially well-adjusted and moral individuals around the bend, an untamed society comes into a world of good people and drives them to violent extremes.Product details

Brutal Revenge Mr James Raven Books Reviews
Picked for my library. Go on long trips frequently and have a large selection on hand so I am prepared. Also part of my Hurricane prep. Once read I shall update the evaluation.
A fun read, it moves along and is never boring. Nor is it great liturature, but the characterless live and act. Lots of movement and Anglicized phraseology to keep one amused.

Loved the book but not the way it ended. Oh well, I guess it had to end that way. Excellent author., I have read alot of his books.
I really enjoy the pace, the content, the balance of detail and progression of the story. I became very involved in the story emotionally because James Raven has the ability to do that to the reader. Get the book, you won't be disappointed. First class storytelling and a fascinating location.
I'm already a fan of James Raven. This is a very suspenseful story of a gang who goes treasure hunting on a remote island, well basically stealing the treasure. A well delivered story, this one has brutal fights between those who think the treasure should belong to them, and the hardened criminals on the other end. What greed could make people do, has been shown in bloody detail. A great read.
i have already told 2 people they have to read it! when the boat got loose and broken up when the storm drove it into the rocks, i had to laugh a little. so much for well laid plans! this book shows what happens when you push good people too far for too long. the islanders fight back and the bad guys get what they deserve. the ending was perfect. james raven nailed this book! i'll be looking for more from this great author.
read it, you won't be disappointed
This a well written story about some experienced criminals who look for a big payday on a remote, sparsely inhabited island. As suggested by the title, this caper doesn't turn out well. There is action and some suspense. There is some brutality, but not nearly as much as you will find in many novels about criminals. The main focus of this tale is on some serious miscalculations made by the criminals.
